Prosecutor named to Lake Superior Court bench
INDIANAPOLIS (April 14, 2005) – A lifetime Lake County resident with a distinguished career as a public servant and civic leader has been named judge in the Lake Superior Court, Criminal Division

INDIANAPOLIS (April 14, 2005) – A lifetime Lake County resident with a distinguished career as a public servant and civic leader has been named judge in the Lake Superior Court, Criminal Division. Governor Mitch Daniels has named Diane Ross Boswell, of Gary, to succeed Judge Joan Kouros.

Boswell, 56, a Gary native, has served as deputy prosecutor with the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office since 1994. For the past five years, she has been the supervisor of the County Courts Division of the Lake Superior Court, responsible for the administration of prosecutorial functions in four county courts and 11 city and town courts.

Boswell’s public service career extends for more than 30 years and includes service as a staff attorney for the Lake County Division of Family and Children and extensive experience as a social services director for several hospitals and home care agencies.

“Diane brings integrity and an impeccable reputation to the bench, and she has the right mix of compassion and toughness to be successful. This is a woman who confronted her fear of flying by taking flight lessons,” said Governor Daniels. “Diane has given much to her community and leads by example.”

Boswell is a commissioner for the Gary Police Civil Service Commission and has served on the board of the Lake County Bar Association, Lake Area United Way, Gary YWCA, North Indiana United Methodist Foundation and the Lugar Excellence in Public Service Program. She is also an active member of the Kimbrough Bar Association and the Women Lawyers Association.

“I’m proud to serve my community in this manner. I will work diligently to make improvements to the Lake County court system,” said Boswell.

She earned her undergraduate degree in psychology from Tennessee State University, a master of social work from Loyola University and a law degree from the Loyola University School of Law.

Boswell was among three people nominated for the position by the Lake County Judicial Nominating Commission. The names were submitted to the governor on February 14.
