Tools and Data Layers in the DNR Water Wells Map

The table below describes the function of each TOOL in the toolbar.
The HYPERLINK, IDENTIFY, SELECT BY RECTANGLE, and FIND tools described 
below will only work on the active layer. Click on the radial button next to
the layer name to make it active. Only one layer can be active at one time.

Description of Tools

Switch between Layer List and symbol Legend
Turns OVERVIEW MAP on and off
Drag box or click on map to ZOOM IN
Drag box or click on map to ZOOM OUT
Zoom to FULL EXTENT of all Layers
Zoom to the PREVIOUS EXTENT
ZOOM TO COUNTY: click this button to open the zoom to county tool below the map. Select the county from the drop-down list then click Zoom To.
Click and drag on map to PAN
HYPERLINK: Click on this tool then click on a water well to open a web Report for that well. If clicking on a well with a known location (red or blue dots),  the Water Wells known locations layer must be active. If clicking on a well with an estimated location (green dot), the Water Wells estimated locations must be the active layer. 
IDENTIFY: Click this tool then on a feature from the active layer and view its attributes in the box below the map. Click on the link under the Well ID Number field to open the full report for that well.
Click this QUERY tool to open the query design tool below the map. It can be used to create and run a detailed query to find records from the active layer.
FIND: a feature or features from the Active layer; the attributes for the features that match the entered string will be displayed in the box below the map. Click on the link under the Well ID Number field to get detailed information on a well.
MEASURE distance on map
SELECT BY RECTANGLE: click on map, hold the mouse key down and draw a rectangle. Items from the active layer that fall within the rectangle will be selected and their attributes will be displayed in the box below the map. Click on the link under the Well ID Number field to get detailed information on a well. To add the data to an excel spreadsheet, open Excel, then use your mouse cursor to select the field names and data in the box below the map and simultaneously hit Ctrl and c on your keyboard.  Finally, click on a cell in the Excel spreadsheet and hit Ctrl and v to paste the information into the spreadsheet.
CLEAR Selection; also removes the lines from using the MEASURE tool.
PRINT Map

The layer will not be visible until the map is at a scale of 1:1,000,000 or better. For more details, go to the Water Well Record Database Definitions.
Water Wells, estimated locations
This layer is ......
The layer will not be visible until the map is at a scale of 1:1,000,000 or better. For more details, go to the Water Well Record Database Definitions.
Interstates and Highways Interstates, US Highways, and State Highways
Local Roads City and county roads. This layer will not be visible until the map is at a scale of 1:100,000 or better.
Incorporated Areas Boundaries of cities and towns.
PLSS Public land survey sections. For more information, see the section under Township/Range/Section on the Water Well Record Database Definitions page.
Quad Boundaries Boundaries of USGS 1:24,000 scale quadrangles.
Counties Boundaries of Indiana counties.
USGS Quad Map USGS Topographic Quad map. For more information, see the section under Topographic Quadrangle on the Water Well Record Database Definitions page.  This layer is not visible until the map is at scale of 1:75,000 or better. Aerial photos (described below) will not be visible if this layer is turned on.
Indiana Map 2005 Aerial Photos IndianaMap Aerial photography from the Spring of 2005. Resolution is 1-meter.
