The Healthy Indiana Plan’s new HIP Employer Link premium-assistance option may be your ticket to finally getting health care coverage – and being able to get the care you need to live a healthier life.
Here is some basic information about the HIP Employer Link program:
What is HIP Employer Link?
HIP Employer Link is an optional leg of the new Healthy Indiana Plan, or “HIP 2.0," that helps Hoosiers afford their employer-sponsored health insurance plans. It’s a premium assistance program designed to allow working Hoosiers who are eligible for Healthy Indiana Plan to instead enroll in their health plan at work.
How does HIP Employer Link work?
Employers register their health plans to participate, then their employees who are eligible and want to participate in HIP Employer Link sign up with the state. Once an employee is enrolled in the employer-sponsored health plan, the employer will deduct the cost of premiums charged from the employee’s pay, per normal procedures. In turn, the State will reimburse the employee directly for the amount of the deduction, minus a small contribution made by the employee.
Can I participate in HIP Employer Link?
To participate in HIP Employer Link, you must have access to and be eligible to participate in your employer’s HIP Employer Link group health plan but your employer must also register the plan with the state. Ask your employer if it offers a HIP Link health plan. Many of the employers currently offering HIP Employer Link are listed here.
To qualify for HIP Link, an employee needs to have a household income at or below approximately 138 percent of the federal poverty level ($16,590 per year for an individual and $33,934 for a family of four in 2016). There are other Healthy Indiana Plan eligibility requirements that will need to be met such as residency and U.S. citizenship.
How do I enroll?
To enroll in HIP Employer Link, the employee must complete an application for HIP, found here. When filling out the application, select the “HIP Link” box. If the employee is not already enrolled in their employer’s HIP Employer Link heath plan, the employee must enroll in the plan during open enrollment or special enrollment period depending on when eligibility is determined. This process is the same for Hoosiers who are already enrolled in the Healthy Indiana Plan and would like to transition to HIP Employer Link. If an employee is already enrolled in the Healthy Indiana Plan, he or she can call 800-403-0864 and ask about reporting a change to transition to HIP Employer Link.
