Healthy Indiana Plan

HIP > Am I Eligible? Am I Eligible?

This page pertains to the existing Healthy Indiana Plan program. For information about the HIP 2.0 proposal, which would build upon the existing program and expand coverage to hundreds of thousands of additional Hoosiers, click here.

How do I know if I am eligible for the HIP or other Medicaid health coverage program?
Indiana residents under the age of 65 who are blind or disabled may be eligible to receive health coverage under Indiana's Medicaid program. A person who is determined by the State to be disabled for at least the next 12 months may be eligible for Medicaid if income and asset guidelines are met.

Healthy Indiana Plan
The Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP) covers individuals who do not live with a dependent child, and parents who earn up to approximately $23,850 annually for a family of four who are not covered by Medicare or other minimum essential health coverage. There is no asset test. HIP requires you to pay a small monthly fee based on the amount of your income. HIP does not cover vision, dental or maternity services. To apply for HIP, click here.

HIP Eligibility Test
Read the questions below and see if they apply to you. If you answer ‘YES’ to all of the questions, then you are likely eligible for HIP!

  1. I am not eligible for Medicaid or Medicare
  2. I am between the ages of 19 and 64
  3. I am a legal resident of the United States
  4. My family income is equal to or less than indicated on the chart below

I think I'm eligible for HIP, but how much does it cost?
HIP members will pay 2% of their family income to have the security of health insurance. The exact cost will depend on your income and family size.

Other Medicaid Health Coverage Plans
The HIP application will only assess eligibility for HIP and is not used to assess eligibility for other Medicaid health coverage programs. If you think you may be eligible for other health coverage programs for low-income families, pregnant women, persons with disabilities, and persons who are blind, you will need to submit the Indiana Application for Health Coverage.
