Dr. Warren Fournier was appointed medical director of Richmond State Hospital in January of 2013. He is a Board Certified Psychiatrist from New Orleans, where he attended medical school and completed his psychiatric residency at Louisiana State University Medical Center, originally with the intention of completing an ENT residency, where he even participated in surgical missions to South America for the correction of pediatric cleft palates. Dr. Fournier brings 12 years of experience in a variety of psychiatric settings such as state hospital inpatient, community mental health centers, private outpatient practice, executive medicine, and consult and liaison psychiatry. Dr. Fournier's main professional interest is tying together the mind-body connection. He enjoys educating patients and mental health professionals about the psychiatric manifestations of medical illnesses that often lead to misdiagnosis or inadequate treatment, as well as how one's mental health physically impacts and alters the function of other organ systems.
The Medical Staff at Richmond State Hospital includes Physicians (M.D. and D.O), Psychologists, Pharmacists and a Dentist as members. The physicians include psychiatrists (physicians who specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of mental and emotional illnesses and substance use disorders) as well as well as physicians providing general medical care.
Psychiatrists typically, after graduating from college, have four years of medical school followed by four years of residency training.
