Debbie Jones is the Director of Nursing Services at Richmond State Hospital. She joined our team in 2015. Debbie has a Masters in Nursing from Frontier University and a Bachelors in Nursing from IU. She brings to Richmond State Hospital over 12 years of Executive Level Management experience in nursing.
The nursing staff at Richmond State Hospital includes Registered Nurses, who may possess an Associate degree, Bachelor degree, Masters degree or Doctoral degree, and Licensed Practical Nurses, who have completed 18 months of education in nursing. Licensure by the Indiana State Board of Nursing is a requirement of employment for nurses. In addition to licensure, all nurses are required to participate in ongoing continuing education to broaden their knowledge base in psychiatric and non-psychiatric nursing fields.
Nurses at RSH perform numerous services, including clinical and administrative supervision, patient and staff education and training, emergency care, clinical assessments, and active treatment for our patients. This is done in collaboration with the other clinical disciplines.
Behavioral Heal Recovery Attendants, or BHRA's, provide direct care for patients at the hospital. They reinforce and monitor activities of daily living, are role models for healthy communication and relationships, and are often involved in active treatment and patient education. Attendants are required to complete an extensive training program that involves classroom instruction as well as mentoring by other staff in patient care areas.
Qualified Medication Assistants (QMAs) have completed the BHRA class, have at least one year of patient care experience, and have completed a Medication Administration Class approved by the Indiana State Board of Health. They must also pass the State Exam for QMAs. QMAs are qualified to administer medication and transcribe physician's orders.
Although the job classifications and responsibilities for Nursing Department staff members may vary, we all share the hospital's mission to provide individualized, quality healthcare with respect, dignity and caring.
