What Happens Next

  • When you turn-in your application to an enrollment center or a Division of Family Resources office, then a worker will look over the application, make sure it's complete and then put you in touch with a Benefit Advocate who will talk to the family about how to choose a doctor and what doctors are available. DON'T LEAVE THE ENROLLMENT CENTER OR DFR OFFICE WITHOUT TALKING TO A BENEFIT ADVOCATE either in person or on the phone.
  • After an application is turned in, the most important thing to do is for you to pick a doctor and health plan for your children - even before final eligibility is made. It is important to have a doctor already picked so that when a child becomes eligible, he or she can go to the doctor right away for a first check-up. All Hoosier Healthwise members have a personal doctor. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU TELL THE BENEFIT ADVOCATE WHO YOU WANT FOR YOUR DOCTOR. If you do not tell the Benefit Advocate, a doctor will be chosen for you. You can call the Hoosier Healthwise Helpline at 1-800-889-9949 to talk to a Benefit Advocate.
  • Once the application is processed - your family will get a letter to let you know whether or not you or your child is eligible. If you have not already chosen a doctor and health plan, you will have 30 days to do that or a doctor and health plan will be assigned to you.
  • If you or your child is eligible, you will also get a letter with the name and phone number of your child's doctor and health plan. If it is not the doctor or health plan you chose, call the Helpline.
  • Call your doctor and make an appointment for you or your child to get a health check-up.
