Q: Who do I call if I have a question about Hoosier Healthwise?
A: Call or visit your Benefit Advocate where you applied for the program or call the Hoosier Healthwise Helpline at 1-800-889-9949.
Q: When do I need to see or talk to the Benefit Advocate?
A: See or talk to your Benefit Advocate:
Q: My doctor is not on the list, what should I do?
A: The Benefit Advocate or Helpline staff will help you.
Q: What dentist can I see?
A: You can use any dentist who is in the program. Call the Hoosier Healthwise Helpline at 1-800-889-9949 to get a list of dentists in your area.
Q: My doctor's office told me my child is not on Hoosier Healthwise, what should I do?
A: Call the Hoosier Healthwise helpline at 1-800-889-9949. The staff will check to see if your child is eligible for Hoosier Healthwise. You may be asked for the location where you applied for the program.
Q: If my child gets sick at night, how do I get help?
A: Call the doctor's office or the number your child's doctor gave you for after office hours. Your doctor or someone who works with that doctor, will tell you what to do. You should always be able to reach someone. If it is a true emergency, go straight to the Emergency Room.
Q: When can I make an appointment with my doctor?
A: You will get a letter in the mail when you or your child is enrolled in the program. It will tell you who your doctor is and when you can start seeing your doctor. On that day, you should call your doctor to set up an appointment.
Q: Why do I have to call the doctor before I go to the emergency room?
A: You can call your personal doctor 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for help. Your doctor knows your family and what care he or she needs. That means you get better care than going to the emergency room where the doctor does not know your medical needs. You also may have to wait several hours in the emergency room.
Q: How often can I change my child's personal doctor?
A: In general, you can change your child's personal doctor once every 12 months or if you show "good cause" why you would like to change in mid-year, before the 12 months is over. Some examples of "good cause" reasons are if you move to another county or if you explain that the doctor you have chosen is no longer convenient for you.
Q: Why do I have to wait 12 months to change the personal doctor I chose for my child?
A: It is the job of the doctor you chose for your child to work with you to provide the best possible care for your child. It is important for you to develop a good relationship with your child's doctor so that you can get the best care for your child. This takes time and won't happen if you change your child's doctor often without good reason.
