HOOSIER HOMEGROWN ENERGY
Today, 75% of Indiana’s energy expenditures leave the state in exchange for:
out of state coal, natural gas and oil products
Petroleum has increased in price by 50% in the past two years while natural gas prices have increased 50% in just one year.
The country as a whole is struggling with becoming energy independent. What if we made much of this energy ourselves?
Our Hoosier Homegrown Energy strategy is to grow Indiana jobs and incomes by producing more of the energy we need from our own natural resources, while encouraging conservation and energy efficiency. This plan is the energy component of the state's "Accelerating Growth" economic plan and agricultural growth strategy.
VISION:
Grow Indiana jobs and incomes by producing more the energy we need from our own natural resources while encouraging conservation and energy efficiency.
GOALS:
- TRADE CURRENT ENERGY IMPORTS FOR FUTURE INDIANA ECONOMIC GROWTH
- PRODUCE ELECTRICITY, NATURAL GAS AND TRANSPORTATION FUELS FROM CLEAN COAL AND BIOENERGY
- IMPROVE ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND INFRASTRUCTURE
The spectrum of initiatives and projects ranges from coal gasification, to biofuels and biomass, to renewables and energy efficiency. Consistently increasing our ability to produce these energy sources and then maximize their potential is key to successfully carrying out this plan.

Hoosier Homegrown means just that. We will use the resources, crops and waste products currently present in Indiana and turn these items into the energy for all Hoosiers. We will further reduce our need to import and increase our ability to export. Most of all, this advances Indiana and this country’s ability to become energy independent.
