Indiana Energy Facts

Indiana power plants rank 12th in the nation for electricity sales

75 percent of Indiana's energy expenditures leave the state in exchange for out-of-state coal, natural gas and oil products

Indiana mines over 35 million tons of coal each year which represents about 3.5% of the total U.S. coal production

Primary Sources of Energy for Indiana:
Coal: 53%
Petroleum: 29%
Natural Gas: 17%
Renewables: 1%

Lt. Governor Skillman - Reilly Event
The Indiana Office of Energy & Defense Development, under the leadership of Lieutenant Governor Becky Skillman, is responsible for Indiana's energy policy. That policy is outlined in the state's strategic energy plan, Hoosier Homegrown Energy. The Office leads Indiana's efforts to develop alternative fuels for the U.S. military and assists in the development of of Indiana's defense,aerospace, and homeland security industries.
