The Indiana Department of Revenue – as directed by Governor Daniels -- will provide immediate relief to impacted individuals and businesses in counties declared by Executive Order of the Governor as disaster emergency areas or in counties designated by the President as a disaster area eligible for individual or public assistance. The following relief efforts will be implemented to help Hoosiers during this difficult time:
The deadline for estimated income tax payments and the filing of estimated income tax returns will be extended for 30 days. Penalty and interest will be waived if the returns are filed and payments deposited on or before July 18, 2008.
The June payment for those impacted taxpayers, who have established a payment plan agreement with the Department for delinquent taxes, will be deferred. The payment plan will be extended 1-month to allow for full payment of the amount owed.
The deadline for remitting withholding and sales taxes will be extended for 30 days for impacted small businesses. Small businesses who qualify for the extended deadline:
Representatives of the Department of Revenue will be available in the district offices and at designated FEMA sites. These representatives will assist taxpayers in obtaining copies of Indiana income tax returns, payment plan coupons, replacement of active registered retail merchant certificates and any other services the Department can provide.
