I did not know that my IRP renewal paperwork was due on January 2nd and my billing was due to be paid on February 15, and I had to pay a penalty fee of 5%.

These dates have not changed since the statute for penalty fees was passed. The Due dates are ALWAYS printed on your renewal print-out as well as in the IRP Information Manual.

Do I need an Oversize/Overweight permit to move farm equipment?

If you travel on any Indiana interstate road system, you will need an oversize/overweight permit. If you are running on the secondary road system only, you are exempt from needing a permit for oversize/overweight.

Who must have a US DOT number?

Federal provisions require that ALL interstate/intrastate carriers obtain a US DOT number. You are required to have a US DOT number if you operate a commercial motor vehicle transporting property or passengers with a GVWR of 10,001 pounds or over; or if the vehicle is designed to transport fifteen (15) or more passengers or more (including driver); or the vehicle is used to transport designated hazardous materials.

Am I required to have an IFTA license if I have a farm plated vehicle?

Only if you travel outside of your base state.
