Prior to being appointed by Governor Daniels in October 2006 to the post of commissioner, Ms. Torres practiced law for 20 years in Johnson and Marion Counties. She graduated with honors from law school in Indianapolis, Indiana. She attended Indiana University, graduating Phi Beta Kappa in 1982. She previously served the governor as a member of the Indiana State Board of Funeral and Cemetery Service.
She is a member of the American, Indiana, Indianapolis and Johnson County Bar Associations. She is the immediate past president of the Johnson County Bar Association. She has a published work in the Indiana Law Review, and has lectured at several continuing legal education seminars.
She is a Hoosier native and life long resident of Johnson County, Indiana, where she lives with her husband of 25 years, J. Marcos Torres. She has two children, both graduates of two of Indiana’s premier universities, the University of Notre Dame and Indiana University.
