The annual Governor's Workplace Safety Awards are a result of a partnership among the Indiana Department of Labor, on behalf of Governor Michael R. Pence, the Indiana Chamber of Commerce and the Central Indiana Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers. The award provides recognition for companies based on best practices for eliminating workplace injuries and illnesses. The award salutes those organizations for which safety and health have been made a top priority.
The Governor's Workplace Safety Awards are open to all organizations, regardless of size or number of workers affected. All Hoosier businesses, unions, municipalities, schools, service organizations, nonprofit organizations or individuals are eligible to apply for the awards. To qualify, a company must be deemed to be free of compliance disputes concerning all applicable local, state and federal statutes and regulations.
The 2013 awards were presented at the state's annual Safety and Health Conference and Exposition during the Governor's Workplace Safety Awards Luncheon, held on March 13, 2013. The 2013 Governor's Workplace Safety Awards were presented by Indiana Lt. Governor Sue Ellspermann and Indiana Department of Labor Commissioner Sean M. Keefer.
The 2014 Governor's Workplace Safety Award application will be available by November 1, 2013. The 2014 award recipients will be presented in conjunction with the Indiana Safety and Health Conference and Expo, which will be held at the Indiana Convention Center in downtown Indianapolis February 18-20, 2014.
