Track a bobcat . . . we need your help

When DNR biologists trap and track bobcats they are armed with radio and animal data collection equipment. The radio equipment is used to track bobcats already fitted with radio collars. Similar in appearance to dog collars, radio collars allow biologists to track migration habits, den and eating habits of bobcats. Biologists will use the information to help manage and protect bobcats.

With a registration to the Track a Bobcat project and a donation to the Indiana Nongame Fund, you can become a vital partner in the DNR’s efforts to protect and manage more than 550 nongame and endangered wildlife species.

Research on nongame and endangered wildlife in Indiana is funded almost entirely from the Indiana Nongame Fund and receives no state funding from general revenues.

Participation levels for the year-long Track a Bobcat project are $100 and $500. All contributions to participate with the project are tax deductible. Classrooms, groups, organizations, individuals and businesses are all eligible for participation.

For $100, the Junior Bobcat Biologist designates classrooms, schools and student organizations as participants. Families and individuals also may participate at the $100 level as a Bobcat Tracker. Businesses and professional organizations can participate as Bobcat Beacons with a $500 donation.

Each level of participation receives an individual participation package specifically put together to meet the participant’s needs.
