Fairbanks Landing

History and Funding

Fairbanks Landing FWA is being operated under an agreement between Indiana Michigan Power and Indiana Division of Fish and Wildlife.

Rules and Regulations

In addition to state fish and wildlife laws, this property is governed by posted regulations affecting the public use of lands and facilities owned, leased or licensed by the Department of Natural Resources. Pursuant to the Authority of Chapter 60, Acts of 1919, Chapter 120 and Chapter 353, Acts of 1945, Chapter 221, Acts of 1957, Chapter 406 and Chapter 441, Acts of 1965; and the Indiana Code of 1971, 14-3-3.

Posted Areas

Safety zones, refuges, waterfowl resting areas and other restricted areas are marked with appropriate signs. PLEASE READ AND OBEY ALL SIGNS.

Violations

Violation of any law, rule or regulation governing this property may be cause for forfeiting your hunting, fishing, or visiting privileges on this area.

Responsibility

The Division of Fish and Wildlife, Department of Natural Resources, will not be held responsible for any accidents or deaths occurring form the use of these facilities.

Permits

In addition to a hunting and/or fishing license the following permits are required:

  • All hunters must check in at the corner of CR 925 N and CR 800 W before hunting on Nov.13 and 14, 2004. DNR personnel will be at this location to check-in hunters no later than 4 am on those days.
  • After Nov. 13 and 14, hunters will be required to check-in to hunt daily at the self-service check station at the corner of CR 925 N and CR 800 W.

Traffic

  • Traffic on public roads through the area is governed by state and county laws. Traffic over service roads and trails, except by authorized vehicles, is restricted to walking.
  • No motorized vehicles, horses or bicycles are permitted beyond county roads.
  • Parking in designated lots only.

Hunting

  • Deer and small game are common at Fairbanks Landing Fish and Wildlife Area.
  • A maximum of 200 deer hunters per day are allowed at Fairbanks Landing Fish and Wildlife Area. The use of bonus anterless deer licenses is prohibited on this property.
  • A daily bag limit of four quail is permitted on this property.
  • The first weekend of deer firearm season is by a pre-registration draw. Please contact Minnehaha Fish and Wildlife Area for more information.

Fishing

  • Currently, there is no direct boating access to the Wabash River from the property.
  • Bank fishing on the Wabash River is permissible with a valid Indiana fishing license.

Camping

  • Camping, picnicking, and open campfires are not allowed. No swimming is allowed.

Additional Opportunities

  • The property will be open to hunting starting Nov. 13th
  • Scouting and placement of deer hunting stands will be allowed starting at 8 a.m. on Nov. 6th
  • A maximum of 300 hunters (a total of all hunters including deer and small game hunters) will be allowed to use the property on Nov. 13th & 14th
  • All hunters must check in at the corner of CR 925 N and CR 800 W before hunting on Nov. 13th and 14th
    DNR personnel will be at this location to check in hunters no later than 4 a.m. on those days.
