Jeff Knieriem is general manager of Cave Country Canoes in Marengo in Crawford County. This is one of three river otters he saw feeding above the dam on the Blue River in Milltown, also in Crawford County. Knieriem sneaked out on the bridge near the dam to take the shot with his Canon Power Shot SX 160 IS while “having a great time just watching their antics.” Cave Country Canoes has been a longtime prolific OI subscriber, getting 12 issues per publication.
Nancy Chapman of rural Pulaski County couldn’t resist snapping this photo of baby house wrens with her Olympus camera, and we couldn’t resist running it. She said the mother nested in a hand-painted birdhouse on her “well-used” deck. The babies were hopping around the deck. They settled on the lattice to pose before “mama coaxed them to fly to a nearby pasture.” The retiree rejoined OI as a subscriber last year after a short hiatus.
