George Thompson has been the Director of the IDHS Support and Services Division since December 2005. The Support and Services Division Director oversees all fiscal, procurement, payroll and human resources (HR) functions as well as all legal and code service functions.  The Support Services Division Director also is responsible for the agency’s centralized office management functions, including vehicle assignments/leases, equipment repairs, vehicle repairs, telephone/data services, credit card issuance, supply ordering, and the like. As the General Counsel, he serves as the senior legal advisor to the agency head, supervising the delivery of legal services to the Executive Director and other agency managers and supervisors.
 
Prior to coming to work for IDHS, George served as the Staff Judge Advocate of the Joint Forces Command, Indiana Army National Guard, supervising 22 Army National Guard attorneys. He also was the State Judge Advocate of the Military Department of Indiana from August 1985 until December 2005.   He retired in 2005 after 30 years of military service at the rank of Colonel.
