IDHS > Emergency Managers > Earthquake Preparedness Program > Great Central U.S. ShakeOut Great Central U.S. ShakeOut

On April 19, 2011, more than 600,000 Hoosiers participated in the Great Central United States ShakeOut.  Schools, businesses, government agencies, individuals, and other groups and organizations took part in this event to prepare for a potential earthquake in Indiana.  The Indiana Department of Homeland Security partnered with the Central United States Earthquake Consortium (CUSEC), Indiana Department of Education, and the Indiana Geological Society to help spread the word about earthquake preparedness throughout the state.

While the 2011 Great ShakeOut may be over, preparing for an earthquake can provide you with the skills and information needed to ensure that you stay safe if an earthquake strikes.  IDHS encourages all Hoosiers to take a few moments to learn and prepare for earthquakes.  Making earthquake preparedness a priority can make a big difference in your ability to earthquakes, as well as many other potential disasters.
