Joseph Romero joined the Indiana Department of Homeland Security in September 2013 as Director of Planning and Assessment.
As director of planning, Romero oversees comprehensive planning assessment; assists in the development of a single, statewide strategic, operational and tactical plan; assists local entities through planning and grants assistance; and provides support for other divisions internal and external to the agency with incident and event specific planning requests.
In March 2014, Romero was also assigned supervision of the Division of Training and Preparedness. The division provides or coordinates training, continuing education, and exercises for the state's public safety practitioners.
