Communications are vital in an emergency.  To maintain contact between personnel in the field and the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) IDHS has Mobile Command Center which is on-call 24 hours a day.

In addition, satellite phones have been installed in response vehicles with a satellite dispatch system installed in the EOC.

Dispatch and technical staff regularly participate in Federal Emergency Management Agency and Civil Air Patrol exercises in addition to response to routine state emergencies and disasters.
