All Out of State Child Welfare Agency request regarding information related to an ongoing assessment or investigation within their own state beginning 8:00 am, EST, Monday, June 4, 2018 must be submitted through the CPI/CPS Electronic Portal only.

DCS COBCU will discontinue accepting request by e-mail, fax or other methods when the electronic portal is active. Note: Additional documentation may be required at the discretion of the Central Office Background Check Unit.

All out of state child welfare agencies MUST register as a new agency in the CPI/CPS Portal to begin this process if the state has not yet requested using the CPI/CPS Portal.  After the state has been added to the portal the first time, each worker may need to be added as a separate user for that agency.

Indiana Department of Child Services (DCS) is unable to provide any criminal history information to an out-of-state child welfare agency as part of an ongoing investigation/ assessment, as Indiana DCS do not have the statutory authority to access this information.

DCS is also unable to complete Child Protective Service (CPS) History Checks for out-of-state child welfare agencies for individuals living within Indiana.

Indiana policy prohibits the completion of Criminal History Checks as well as CPS History Checks on those currently residing in Indiana when requested by an out-of-state child welfare agency as this may be in violation of the Interstate Compact for the Placement of Children (ICPC).
