We are looking forward to an enjoyable training experience with you!
All new and replacement Family Case Managers will follow identical training program. This program is a 12-week cycle of training directed by the State to be completed in its entirety before ANY caseloads are authorized to be assigned. Each trainee group is made of approximately 25 students.
Overview that the State Trainees will achieve the following during their training:
- State Personnel Orientation Program
- Swearing In Ceremonies by DCS Director Judge James Payne and our State Governor, Mitch Daniels or Legislative Representative
- 4 Days of " Getting to Know Your IN Department of Child Services " an intensive Operational Training to ensure that each person develops into a knowledgeable Family Case Manager with regards to daily Agency Operations. This training is ALWAYS conducted in Indianapolis

- Weeks two - nine trainees enter into a standardized curriculum that covers in-depth job related topics such as proper Intake, Investigation, Physical and Substance Abuse, and Legal related training, etc. (These weeks vary in training location)
- These topics are enhanced by an in-depth "Transfer of Learning" Model that enhances the practical application of these topics.
- The final three weeks of training is considered the "final job preparation" and is spent in the county office of hire. During this time, the trainee works closely with his or her Field Mentor and Supervisor to gain practical application of the knowledge and skills necessary to do child welfare work.
- On the final day, the graduating class meets in Indianapolis for a graduation ceremony in the Indiana State Library, where the Department proudly launches its newly trained Family Case Managers into service for the State of Indiana.
