Mark Hartman Three years later, Hartman transferred to the Terre Haute Post where he patrolled Parke and Vermillion Counties until his assignment as Public Information Officer at the Terre Haute Post in 1986. In 1987, he was promoted to Sergeant, and then First Sergeant in 1991. In 1999, Hartman was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and served as the District Commander of the Terre Haute Post. As a Lieutenant, he also served as District Commander of the Indianapolis Post from May through September in 2003. Hartman was promoted to the rank of Captain to serve as Commander of Area V for the Indiana State Police in October of 2003. In this capacity, Hartman oversaw the operations of three Central Indiana State Police Posts (Indianapolis, Pendleton, and Putnamville.) His office was also responsible for State Police activities at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Indiana State Fair. He also served as “Incident Commander” each time the Area V Emergency Response Team (SWAT) was activated. Promoted to the rank of Major in August of 2007, Hartman served as Commander of ISP's Operations Support Division. This division is responsible for planning and coordinating the Department’s emergency management effort in cooperation with the state and federal Department of Homeland Security, managing the Aviation Section, managing the Emergency Response Section, coordinating the training and activities of the Department’s specialty teams, administering the Marijuana Eradication Program, the writing and administration of grants relating to special enforcement projects (both traffic safety and homeland security), and representing the Executive Staff on several public safety committees. As a 35 year veteran of the Indiana State Police, Major Hartman retired from the Department in June of 2009. Hartman is a graduate of the 164th session of the F.B.I. National Academy and an active member of the F.B.I. National Academy Associates of Indiana, the Parke-Vermillion F.O.P. Lodge #167, the Indiana State Police Alliance, the Indiana Troopers Association, Pioneers of the Indiana State Police, and the American Association of State Troopers. Mark and Janice, his wife of 35 years, live in Rosedale Indiana. Their son Ashley attends DePaul University and resides in Chicago, IL.

Mark E. Hartman began his career with the Indiana State Police (ISP) as a Civilian Dispatcher in 1973 and continued as a Dispatcher until his successful completion of the Indiana State Police Recruit School Academy. Appointed as a Trooper in 1976, he was assigned to the Indiana State Police Post at Evansville.
