Course Description

With the science and technology of toxicology evolving rapidly and with numerous technical changes in the procedure and policy of the Indiana State Department of Toxicology it is exceptionally difficult for a deputy prosecutors and law enforcement to have a thorough understanding of toxicology issues necessary for the successful prosecution of many impaired driving cases.

In order to prepare the deputy prosecutors throughout Indiana who are responsible for the impaired driving cases in their communities, it is important for them to receive up to date training and information on toxicology issues. Dr. Peter Method, the Acting Director of the Indiana Department of Toxicology along with his staff, will participate in a one-day training for prosecutors and law enforcement to teach them a basic understanding of the science of toxicology, a familiarity with 260 Indiana Administrative Code which sets forth the regulations that govern the Indiana Department of Toxicology and to deal with the most common defense attacks and strategies on toxicology evidence.

This training will also be video recorded and burned onto a reproducible CD-Rom that can be distributed to law enforcement agencies and prosecutor’s offices state-wide for a small fee to cover reproduction costs.
