ICJI > Governor's Council on Impaired & Dangerous Driving > Training & Education > TOPS Instructor Training TOPS Instructor Training

This course is a modified version of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration course. The TOPS instructor training is a five hour course intended to provide the instructor with the necessary training to conduct the TOPS Basic class for in-service training. The TOPS Basic class is meant to be a four hour training focusing on officer safety in his/her vehicle; crash dynamics; Indiana's occupant protection laws and enforcement efforts; and how to inform the public of your efforts.

Each participant will have a manual. Call the Council to order these. Overheads and a powerpoint presentation are available. In the back of each section is a copy of each overhead and handout in the participant's manual. Two overheads are included to open the class. The first is "Traffic Occupant Protection Strategies". The second is "Course Overview".

For a listing of trained instructors please view the TOPS Instructor list.

Thank you for your interest in occupant protection. Please direct any questions or comments to the Governor's Council on Impaired & Dangerous Driving at 317-232-1295.

ICJI is requesting that all TOPS Instructors distribute Project L.O.V.E. vouchers to their class participants. Please contact Marnita Louzon at 1-800-KID-N-CAR to obtain Project L.O.V.E vouchers prior to your training date.
