    Jon Costas was elected as Valparaiso's 26th mayor in November 2003. Prior to being elected mayor, Mr. Costas served as an at large member on the City Council. Mayor Costas is a 1975 graduate of Valparaiso High School. He received his B.A. from St. Joseph's College in Rensselaer, Indiana, and his law degree (with high Distinction) from Valparaiso University School of Law in 1989. He maintains a small, private practice in the field of Elder Law and has obtained his certification in elder law from the National Law Foundation. Mayor Costas is also an adjunct professor at Valparaiso Law School.

    Mr. Christopher Murphy III

    Represents District 2 until June 30, 2010

    Mr. Murphy is the Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of 1st Source Corporation and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of 1st Source Bank, a South Bend-based financial institution with more than $3.2 billion in assets. Mr. Murphy has a strong educational background having received a B.A. in Government from the University of Notre Dame, an M.B.A. (with Distinction) from Harvard University Business School, and a Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia Law School. In addition to his responsibilities at 1st Source, Mr. Murphy has served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the World Presidents' Organization in 2002 and has been a board member for several years.

    Ms. Marilyn Moran-Townsend

    Represents District 3 until June 30, 2013

    Marilyn Moran-Townsend is in her 25th year of creating strategic sales, marketing and training programs for clients across the nation as Chairman and CEO of CVC Communications-Business Storytellers (SM). Ms. Moran-Townsend was Founding Chair of "Invent Tomorrow," a Fort Wayne community project created with the National Civic League. Under her leadership, the group developed a model Education Consortium to create collaboration among public and private K-12 schools and universities. Ms. Moran-Townsend is a Purdue University graduate with B.A. degrees in radio/television/film and journalism.

    Mr. Gary Lehman

    Represents District 4 until June 30, 2012

    Gary Lehman is the President and CEO of Fairfield Manufacturing Co., Inc., the largest independent gear manufacturer in North America. Prior to Fairfield, Mr. Lehman was the founder and Managing Director of The Cannelton Group, which provided operations and financial assistance to private equity and closely held manufacturing firms. He has also held executive positions at Phillips Lighting Electronics, Advance Transformer, ITT Automotive, Federal-Mogul Corp., TRW Inc. and John Deere. Mr. Lehman received a bachelor's degree in Industrial Management from Purdue University in 1974, and an MBA from Case Western University, where he was the recipient of the Eaton Scholarship and a member of Beta Gamma Sigma International Honor Society.

    Mr. Michael Smith

    (Chair) Represents District 5 until June 30, 2010

    Michael L. Smith served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Anthem, Inc. and its subsidiaries, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield. He was the co-executive lead of Anthem's $4.0 billion demutualization and initial public offering in 2001. Following the merger of Anthem and WellPoint Health Networks, Inc, Mike retired in 2005. He is a member of the Board of Trustees at DePauw University, the Michigan Maritime Museum, the Indianapolis Museum of Art, the Lumina Foundation and the Park Tudor School Trust.

    Mr. Michael "Jud" Fisher, Jr.

    (Secretary) Represents District 6 until June 30, 2011

    Mr. Fisher is responsible for managing the Ball Brothers Foundation in Muncie. He joined the Foundation in 2003 after working in administration for Old National Signature Group. A Michigan native, Jud is a graduate of DePauw University and the Indiana University Center on Philanthropy.

    Dennis Bland, Esq.

    Represents District 7 until June 30, 2012

    Dennis Bland is the President of the Center for Leadership Development in Indianapolis, Indiana, where he also lives. Dennis Bland received his primary and elementary education through Indianapolis Public Schools and attended DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana following his graduation from Broad Ripple High School. After graduating from DePauw with a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics, he went on to obtain his juris doctorate degree from Indiana University School of Law--Indianapolis.

    Mr. George Rehnquist

    Mr. Kenneth Sendelweck

    (Vice Chair)  Represents District 9 until June 30, 2012

    Kenneth L. Sendelweck currently serves as the President, Private Banking and Wealth Management, for German American Bancorp, Inc., a $1.2 billion financial institution based in Jasper, Indiana serving the banking, insurance and investment advisory needs of commercial and retail clients throughout southern Indiana. His responsibilities include the executive oversight of the Company's standalone Trust and Insurance subsidiaries as well as indirect engagement with the Commercial Banking lines of business. Mr. Sendelweck is a 32 year veteran of a variety of corporate finance, treasury and accounting roles (previously employed with Kimball International, Inc. prior to German American Bancorp, Inc.), is a graduate of the University of Southern Indiana, and is a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Treasury Professional. He serves on a number of regional economic development, governmental, healthcare and educational Boards of Directors and is active in several area civic and church groups.

Dr. D’Amico is a nationally recognized expert on education and workforce development issues, co-author of Workforce 2020, and frequent lecturer and key note speaker with extensive experience in advising corporate and government leaders on strategies to strengthen America’s economy through a qualified educated workforce.

    Dr. Gerald Bepko

    At Large Member until June 30, 2010

    Gerald L. Bepko was first appointed at Indiana University in the School of Law--Indianapolis in 1972 and served the university in various capacities for 32 until his retirement in 2004. As Chancellor for seventeen years, he presided over significant changes including enrollment changes, increased research support, physical consolidation of the campus to West Michigan Street and a successful capital campaign for IUPUI which produced more than one billion dollars. In his last year of work as a university executive, Bepko served as Interim President of IU, in between Myles Brand's departure to become head of the NCAA and the appointment of Adam Herbert. Bepko earned a BS from Northern Illinois, a JD from the IIT Chicago Kent College of Law, and the LLM from Yale.

    Cynthia Baker, Esq.

    Faculty Representative until June 30, 2011

    Cynthia Baker joined the IUPUI Law School in 1997 as the first Director of the Program on Law and State Government (PLSG).  Her primary professional responsibilities include serving as faculty advisor to the PLSG fellows and teaching the PLSG Externship Course, State and Local Government Law, and Legal Aspects of Government Finance.  With the help of a grant from the U.S. Dept. of Education, she established the state's first interdisciplinary public policy mediation couse for judges, community leaders, lawyers, and law students.  Ms. Baker also serves as a co-chair of the State Administrative Law Committee of the ABA's Section of Administrative Law and Regulatory Practice.  She was appointed as Clinical Associate Professor of Law in 2005.  Before joining the IUPUI Law School, Cynthia was a Section Chief of the Indiana Dept. of Environmental Management's (IDEM's) Office of Legal Counsel and also served as legal counsel to IDEM'S Office of Solid Hazardous Waste Management.  Prior to her work at IDEM, Cynthia was a judicial clerk to the Hon. Robert D. Rucker of the Indiana Court of Appeals.  She earned her J.D. from Valparaiso School of Law where she served as a note editor and contributing author of the Valparaiso Law Review and graduated magna cum laude.

    Mr. Clayton Slaughter

    Student Representative until June 30, 2010

    Clayton Slaughter is currently a student at Indiana University-Bloomington where he is pursuing a Ph.D. in Higher Education and Student Affairs with Law Minor, and is the Assistant Director of the Indiana University Bloomington Student Advocates Office He received a bachelor's degree in Genetic Biology from Purdue University in 2003, and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the Indiana University School of Law-Bloomington in 2006. While attending Purdue University, he was an active member of the Student Government Association. Mr. Slaughter is highly involved in a wide variety of community activities, including 4-H Monroe County and Boy Scouts of America, where he achieved the levels of Eagle Scout Silver Palm and the Order of the Arrow Brotherhood. He currently serves as Scoutmaster of Troop 121 in Bloomington. His other awards include the Purdue University Dean's List, Shreve Hall Outstanding Executive, and "The Chancellor's List."
