Report on the Sale of Raw Milk to Consumers
During the 2012 legislative session, law makers tasked the Indiana State Board of Animal Health with conducting a study on the sale of raw (unpasteurized) milk in the state of Indiana, which has garnered increasing interest among some consumers.
The report was based on information gathered in a four-pronged approach:
- Agency research into current practices, law in other states, pros/cons;
- Advisory panel input from 18 stakeholders;
- Virtual public hearing from June 1-Sept. 1, 2012 generated 831 comments; and
- Survey of licensed dairy producers.

The final report has been delivered to the Governor, as well as the Legislative Council. Ultimately, the report will provide guidance to lawmakers, should they decide to legalize the sale of raw milk in the state of Indiana--a practice currently prohibited by law.
