Motorcycle License Plates

Every motorcycle registered in Indiana must bear a license plate in a visible location on the rear of the motorcycle. Regular license plates are issued for all riders in Indiana every four years. Plates are also issued when a Hoosier rider registers a newly-purchased motorcycle and chooses not to transfer a previously-issued plate, or when an individual who has recently received an Indiana driver license registers a motorcycle.

All specialty license plates except the "Support Our Troops" license plate may be purchased for use on a motorcycle. Additionally, motorcycles may bear Personalized License Plates. All group fees charged for specialty license plates also apply to motorcycle plates. The registration charge for motorcycles is $25.75 + excise taxes.

Indiana's license plates

Hoosiers who purchase a special recognition license plate should expect to pay the following fees:

  • Group fees determined by the organization sponsoring the license plate;
  • Administrative fee of $15, except "Support Our Troops," Pearl Harbor Survivor, Purple Heart, Hoosier Veteran, and Ex-Prisoner of War plates;
  • Registration fees determined by the year and make of the vehicle and the customer's county of residence.

Customers may request any available license plate with a low number (from 1-100) for an additional $30.
