What are branch appointments?
Branch appointments are a new service provided by the Bureau of Motor Vehicles that allows customers to schedule an appointment online before arriving at a branch, eliminating the need to wait in line. The BMV recently piloted this initiative in six branches and, based on the success of the pilot, is now expanding the service statewide to the 73 largest and busiest branches.
Why did the BMV decide to expand this initiative beyond the pilot phase?
The BMV tested the branch scheduling program in six branches (Carmel, Fishers, Plainfield, Greenwood, Beech Grove and Indianapolis-South Meridian) to evaluate accessibility, public interest and operational flow. During the two-month pilot, more than 850 appointments were scheduled. Customer response to the pilot initiative was overwhelmingly positive, with 100% of survey respondents indicating that they would use the service again, and many customers expressing an interest in seeing the program continued and expanded.
How do customers schedule appointments?
Customers may schedule appointments by visiting the BMV’s website at http://www.mybmv.IN.gov/branches, completing a brief scheduling form, and selecting an available 30-minute timeslot. Customers may schedule an appointment as early as 14 days and as late as two days before the appointment date and may complete as many as five transactions during a scheduled appointment. The BMV will send email confirmation that the appointment has been scheduled along with an email reminder two days prior to each appointment.
What does a customer do when he arrives at the branch for a scheduled appointment?
Upon arriving at the branch, the customer may be immediately seated in the waiting area without waiting in the check-in line. The customer’s name is already in the service queue and will be called at the appointment time.
When will branch appointments be available?
Beginning December 20, customers may start scheduling appointments occurring on or after January 3, 2008.
Are there times when appointments are not available?
The number of available appointments will be limited and will vary by branch, based on the number of available terminals. Appointments at all 73 branches will be available every half-hour on Tuesdays-Fridays from 8:30-11:30 a.m. and from 1:30-4:00 p.m. Appointments will not be available on Saturdays or on the 15th or last day of the month. The BMV strategically designed the program to ensure that wait times for customers without scheduled appointments will not be adversely impacted as a result of the appointment program.
May customers schedule an appointment for any type of transaction?
Most transactions can be scheduled, including most title, registration, and identification card transactions, as well as driver license renewals. Appointments are not available for a small percentage of specialized transactions, including transactions involving out of state vehicles, commercial driver licenses and the issuance of new driver licenses.
What if a customer is late for a scheduled appointment?
Customers who are unable to make a scheduled appointment time are encouraged to cancel and reschedule their visits online in advance by visiting http://www.mybmv.IN.gov/branches. If a customer arrives more than 10 minutes after the scheduled start time, the appointment may be cancelled.
Is online scheduling secure?
The online scheduling system, managed in partnership with the Indiana Office of Technology, is secure. Customers are asked to provide their name, Driver License Number, mailing address, email address and the type of transactions being performed.
Can customers schedule appointments via the telephone?
Branch appointments may only be scheduled online. Customers may access the BMV Web site from computers available to the public in libraries or schools.
Are appointments available at all BMV branches?
Appointments are available at the 73 largest and busiest license branches around the state, including:
