All ORVs and snowmobiles operated in Indiana must be registered with the BMV and display valid ORV or snowmobile decals unless otherwise exempt. Operation of properly registered ORVs and snowmobiles is permitted on Indiana public property where authorized by the Department of Natural Resources, roadways where authorized by the county highway department, and on private property with the consent of the landowner.
The following are exempt from obtaining an Indiana registration:
ORV and snowmobile registrations and decals may be ordered through myBMV or at any license branch. If a title is required for an ORV, the title must be applied for prior to registering online. You will receive your Certificate of Registration and decal within 14 days.
An out-of-state resident must obtain a registration in Indiana if either of the following conditions apply:
Some states only issued permits which are not a valid registration. Contact the Indiana Department of Natural Resources at (877) 463-6367 or their website at www.DNR.in.gov for questions regarding the validity of your current out of state registration or decals.
Dealer ORV and snowmobile registration applications are processed by the BMV Central Office to improve the security and efficiency of these transactions. Prior to submitting each application, verify all required information is included. Contact (888) 692-6841 with any questions.
A dealer ORV and snowmobile registration is required for vehicles used for demonstration and testing purposes only, pursuant to IC §9-18-2.5-11.
