You may choose from more license plate designs including Indiana's standard and historic plates, plates that support military personnel and their families, plates that benefit local schools or organizations, personalized plates, and plates for specific types of vehicles.
Your plate should have stickers showing the day, month, and year of your next registration renewal, and the county in which your vehicle is registered. Indiana law prohibits license plate frames or covers that obscure stickers, text, or numbers on your plate.
You may also plate an antique vehicle with an antique license plate issued by Indiana in the year that your vehicle was manufactured.
Applications for new specialty plates are not being accepted at this time. Effective August 1, 2013, a special group that seeks initial participation in the special group recognition license plate program must submit a completed application to the bureau no later than April 1 for potential issuance in the following year. The BMV is currently developing a standard application with the new requirements that will be available on this website August 1, 2013.
All applications received in 2012 were returned to the applicants. If any of those groups wish to apply, they will need to submit a new application after August 1st.
