INDIANAPOLIS - Auditor of State Connie Nass today
released her fourth biannual "Report to Indiana Citizens
on the State's Finances" to the public. Auditor Nass' office
began publishing the Report at the end of the 2000 calendar year.
This edition sets forth the General Fund and Property Tax Replacement
Fund Surplus ("Surplus") for FY2002 and compares those
numbers to prior years. The Report also examines the Surplus
as a percentage of Operating Revenue, as well as Sales Tax,
Individual Income Tax, and Corporate Income Tax revenues over
the past three fiscal years.
The center pages of this edition of the Report provide a summary
of projected changes in state revenues and expenditures anticipated
to result from House Enrolled Act 1001(ss), the budget and tax
bill that was signed into law by the Governor after the end
of the special session of the legislature. The General Assembly's
bipartisan Legislative Services Agency prepared the summary.
"These Reports help fulfill my duty to help keep Hoosiers
informed of the true status of the State's finances. Indiana
Citizens have a right to expect honest information from their
leaders - just the facts, without spin," stated Nass. "That's
what these Reports provide."
The "Report to Indiana Citizens on the State's Finances"
provides an enhanced understanding of State government's current
financial picture. The graphs and charts used to illustrate
the numbers provided in the report give citizens a new format
by which to access this information. Anyone interested may view
a copy of the Report online at www.in.gov/auditor, or may request
that a copy be mailed to them by calling (317) 232-3300.
