Protecting Young Hoosiers
Protecting Indiana's youth is important to the Attorney General's Office. The Attorney General has been instrumental in enhancing child solicitation laws pertaining to Internet usage in the state of Indiana. The child solicitation law passed in 2002 makes it crime for a person 18 or older to solicit an individual the person believes to be a child under 14 year of age to engage in sexual behavior. This change allows law enforcement personnel to pose as children to catch and prosecute online predators.
The Attorney General's Office supports the Indiana Tobacco Prevention and Cessation agency's efforts on educating children about the risks of using tobacco products. Additionally, the Attorney General's Office enforces statutes regulating the manufacture and importing of tobacco products and the Master Settlement Agreement to ensure that tobacco manufacturers are meeting their obligations.
While the Attorney General's Office cannot provide legal advice or representation to the public concerning drunk driving and underage drinking, we are dedicated to preventing it. AG Carter is a supporter of programs that promote responsible alcohol consumption and combat underage drinking.
