National Arts Advocacy Day

Each year, Americans for the Arts sponsors National Arts Advocacy Day, the largest organized national arts action summit. The event brings together hundreds of arts advocates from across the country to network and meet with their Senators and Representatives to discuss the importance of public policies and federal funding for the arts. 

Arts Advocacy Day: The 2008 National Arts Action Summit

The 21st annual National Arts Action Summit was held on April 1 in Washington D.C.

A delegation of 11 advocates from Indiana \attended, including IAC Executive Director Lewis Ricci, Arts Commission Chair Richard Stifel, State Captain Sally Gaskill (President of the Indiana Coalition for the Arts) and South Shore Arts Executive Director John Cain.

  • March 31, 2008
    Advocates attended workshops on the US Department of Education, Federal Arts Policy, E-Advocacy, Funding for the National Endowment for the Arts, and the National Endowment for the Humanities. On the evening of March 31, author Daniel Pink delivered the Nancy Hanks Lecture at the Kennedy Center. 

  • April 1, 2008
    Indiana's delegation of 11 advocates met with the Indiana Congressional delegation, including Representatives Andre Carson, Joe Donnelly, Baron Hill, Peter Visclosky, Brad Ellsworth, and the staffs of Senator Richard Lugar and Evan Bayh. The major topic of the meetings was funding for the National Endowment for the Arts and public policies for the arts.
