Why am I getting a 'You Do Not Qualify' message when I login?

Review the information you entered to insure it is entered correctly. If you are still receiving this message you may not meet the requirements to use I-File. The requirements are:

  • You have filed an individual return previously with the State of Indiana.
  • Your first or last name has not legally changed since you last filed.
If you do not meet at least one of the above requirements, we encourage you to file electronically using an alternative program.

What should I do if a dialog box stating the "The certificate of authority has expired" comes up?

Simply click Continue. The security is not compromised. To avoid this error message in the future simply upgrade you browser. To upgrade your browser:


How can I change the size of the text?

The size of font is determined by the settings on each computer. To adjust the font size in both Internet Explorer and Netscape, click View at the top of the screen and select the increase/decrease font or text size option.


How can I make changes or review completed sections of my return?

Click on the links in the gray menu bar that list the sections of the program you have completed.


I am in the military. Can I use I-File to file my taxes?

Yes. As long as you meet the program requirement outlined above. For more information on military specific issues visit our military personal site. Continue to I-File to file your Indiana individual income taxes.


What do I do if my session is interrupted because my Internet service provider disconnected me?

To return to your session click the "Resume Session" option on the home page and enter your login information.


Why doesn't I-File allow me to prepare my return, then print and mail it in as I have done in the past?

I-File is now a fully electronic filing system offering accurate calculation and faster receipt of refunds. However, if you still prefer not to file your return electronically you may: 1) access and print the blank forms at our Web site, www.in.gov/dor/taxforms/ or; 2) visit one of our 12 district offices for assistance in completing your return.


How do I know that the return has been received?

After you have completed your return, print a copy. A confirmation number is printed on the top right-hand corner of the completed form, indicating your filing was received by the Indiana Department of Revenue.


I have finished my session but didn't print my PDF.

Completed forms are available for reprinting up to one year, simply login under the "Resume Session" option on the home page and print.


I receive error messages when I try to print. What should I do?

This message usually this means you need to download the most current version of Adobe Acrobat. To download Adobe Acrobat Reader for free visit www.adobe.com


Do I have to mail anything to Revenue if I file electronically?

  • If you will receive a refund, you do not need to send in anything.
  • If you owe the State and decide to make not to pay online, you will need to print your return. The ‘Post Filing Coupon’ is attached to the print out of your return. Detach the coupon and include it with your check for the total amount owed by April 17th to avoid late fees and penalties.

How long will it take for me to receive my refund?

Refunds are received, on average, within seven to 14 days when filing electronically. Check the status of your refund.


What if I accidentally entered the wrong routing number or account number in the direct deposit field?

The bank will attempt to find the right account. If the account cannot be found a check will be sent to the address supplied on the return.


How do I amend or correct a return I filed electronically?

To correct any discrepancies print, complete and mail the Amended Individual Income Tax Form IT-40X to:
