[DNR] Prophetstown State Park aquatic center dedication, July 1
Start Date: 6/28/2013Start Time: 12:00 AM
End Date: 6/28/2013End Time: 11:59 PM
Event Description:
The only Indiana State Park outdoor aquatic center with waterpark-like features will be dedicated during a public ceremony led by Gov. Mike Pence on July 1 at Prophetstown State Park.

The ceremony starts at 11 a.m.

The $6 million aquatic center features a 30-foot tube slide, body flume, Lazy River float area, adventure channel, zero-entry pool with play features, and an aquatic activity area with basketball. The long, low, design allows the facility to blend into the park’s prairie landscape.

The dedication also will include music by the Scott Greeson Band and activities hosted by DNR staff. Visitors can make UV bracelets, take a pool safety quiz, see Prophetstown aquatic wildlife and take part in a “Name the Aquatic Center” contest. Guests also will be able to tour the center facilities and talk with staff about features and rules. The center may not be open for swimming immediately after the dedication, but visitors can bring their suits in the event it is.

Visitors should enter via the park entrance gate on Swisher Road. The usual daily gate fee will be waived for anyone entering the park throughout the day on July 1.

The aquatic center will officially open for swimming on Thursday, July 4 at 11 a.m.

Regular daily aquatic center hours will be 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. initially but may change as the season progresses. The fee for using the facility, after the gate fee is paid, will be $3 per person; children under 3 years old are free. Pool passes good for 25 visits at a cost of $50 per pass will be available for purchase at the aquatic center and park office.

The regular daily gate fee is $6 per in-state vehicle and $8 per out-of-state vehicle. That fee includes entrance to The Farm at Prophetstown.

This is the first aquatic center/pool the DNR has opened since 2008 when the Indoor Water Park at Abe Martin Lodge (Brown County State Park) was dedicated. That indoor facility is the only other waterpark-like attraction in a state park in Indiana.

Prophetstown State Park ( is at 5545 Swisher Road, West Lafayette, IN 47906.
