Flying WILD Educator Workshop, Bloomington

Event Description:
All educators, interested citizens, and bird lovers are invited to attend our bird education workshop. During this workshop, participants will be introduced to Flying WILD, an award winning bird conservation program. Flying WILD offers a whole-school approach to environmental education. With widely adaptable activities, Flying WILD provides practical hands-on classroom and outdoor field investigation, connecting real-world experiences in bird biology, conservation, and natural history. This interactive workshop will focus on sharing the fascinating world of birds during a festival setting. Attending this professional development is FREE of charge in support by the Sassafras Audubon Society.

At the completion of the training and participation in Bird Fest, participants will receive:
  • Flying WILD Curriculum & Activity Guide
  • Six contact hours that can be applied towards Teacher’s Professional Growth Plan (PGP),
  • Certificate of completion in Flying WILD educator workshop,
  • Indiana-specific resources,
  • And more!
The culminating event is the Bloomington Bird Festival which will take place on Saturday, April 4, 2020. Participants are asked to make a commitment to share one or more Flying WILD activities as an individual, with their students, or with their organization.

Anyone who works with children, including teachers, homeschoolers, informal educators, and scout leaders are welcome. This workshop is tailored to conducting activities during a community bird festival. Pre-registration is required to attend. If we reach capacity for this workshop, we will have a second one. At the workshop, please wear comfortable shoes and clothing as you might go outside for activities. Lunch is not provided; please bring your own snacks and/or refreshments.

Guides and materials are distributed only with requisite hours of training. Attendance and participation in the entire workshop is required to receive any of the materials.
