Event Description: Learn to Hunt: Waterfowl 101 Workshop
Indiana Division of Fish & Wildlife Area is teaming up with Ducks Unlimited to hold this workshop.
This workshop is designed for Young Adults (18-35) wanting to learn how to hunt waterfowl. The workshop is made up of three parts, range day, field day, and hunt day.
Range Day: July 15, 10am-4pm
Field Day: August 12, 2pm-6pm
Hunt Day: Early September (day select by mentor)
Range day will be held at Sugar Creek Sporting Clays and Hunting Preserve in Mitchell, IN. Participants will learn: firearm safety, how to select a waterfowl gun, selecting the right choke tube, shell selection, techniques for pass shooting, how to clean your firearm, goose processing, and cooking demo. All firearms, ammunition, and clay targets are provided. Lunch will also be provided.
Field day will be held at Goose Pond Fish and Wildlife area. Participants
will learn: basic waterfowl identification, decoy setup, and basic calling. There may also be a water dog demo depending on the weather.
Hunt day will be held during teal and early goose season. Participants will be teamed up with an experienced waterfowl hunter (mentor) during the field day. The mentor will contact the participant a week before their hunt to set up fail details. A limited number of firearms will be available for use, but you are encouraged to bring your own.
Note: You will need a valid hunting license, sate waterfowl stamp, federal duck stamp, and HIP number to participate in the hunt.
