NWTF/DNR Women in the Outdoors Event--Velpen, IN

Event Description:
The Indiana Department of Natural Resources is partnering with the National Wild Turkey Federation for a Women in the Outdoors Event in southwestern Indiana at OFS Cool Springs, 9412 E. State Rd. 64  -  Velpen, IN 47591.

The Women in the Outdoors program was initiated by the National Wild Turkey Federation in 1998 and is dedicated to providing women educational opportunities regarding turkey and wildlife conservation and preservation of our hunting heritage.  A WITO event is a non-competitive opportunity for women age 17 and over to experience a variety outdoor activities, fishing, shooting and cooking.  No experience is necessary!  Our volunteers will help you every step of the way.  Bring your family and friends for a fun-filled day!  You deserve it! Registration is required and a fee is associated with this event.

Archery: Learn about the fun sport of archery!  You will learn the different parts of a bow and techniques of how to shoot in this hands-on class.   We will have paper and 3-D targets available to shoot.

Trap- Shooting:  Learn how to wing shoot clay pigeons with our instructors from a World-Class 5-stand.   This is an amazing opportunity.

Self-Defense Training: Learn techniques to fend off an attack instructed by our trained local Law Enforcement Officers.  This year’s training will focus on prevention and defense from physical attacks.

Hunting Tactics and Equipment:   Do you have questions about hunting or are unsure of what equipment you will need?  Learn information to help make your hunt successful and field test different types of hunting equipment!   We will have a tree stand set up for you to experience using a lifeline and safety harness.  

Wild Game Tasting/Cooking:  Taste a variety of different types of delicious wild game options prepared by CookIN Gone Wild host Michelle Cain!   Her field-to-plate gourmet style dishes are beautiful, delicious and easy to prepare at home.  We will help prep a few dishes first thing in the morning and taste them at lunch!      

Kayaking:  Would you like to try kayaking?  Adventure Recreation & Gear from Jasper, Indiana will have a variety of kayaks for you to try at the gorgeous Cool Springs Marina.

Fishing:  Our instructors will teach you how to bait a hook, throw a line, catch and release.  A prize will be awarded for the biggest catch of the day!
