Ford Hoosier Outdoor Experience debuts learning center, Sept. 19-20
Start Date: 9/8/2015
Event Description:
The Ford Hoosier Outdoor Experience, now in its seventh year, focuses on getting participants to try outdoor activities for the first time.

But this year, a new feature will teach participants who already know the basics how to become more advanced.
The Ford Hoosier Outdoor Experience Learning Center, sponsored by REI and the Central Indiana Wilderness Club, consists of classes throughout both days of the Experience, Sept. 19-20, between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., at Fort Harrison State Park in Indianapolis. A different class will be offered on the hour between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. each day. Subjects include survival, basic bike maintenance, campfire building, making campfire coffee, packing for a day hike, where to backpack in Indiana, and map and compass skills. A full schedule is at under “Activities.”

Parking, entry and all activities (except the Harrison Hustle 5k run-walk on Sept. 20) at the Ford Hoosier Outdoor Experience are free to participants. The roughly 50 activities, geared for both adults and children, include archery, target shooting, mountain biking, disc golf, and much more. Participants can bring their own food or purchase food at reasonable prices from on-site vendors. All food vendors will offer credit card payment options.

An estimated 20,000 men, women and children participated last year. This year’s event will consolidate its activities into a smaller, more centralized area, all within 1.25 mile area. Participants will walk to each activity.

The Ford Hoosier Outdoor Experience is presented by the DNR and the Indiana Natural Resources Foundation.
