Event Description:
2018 Patoka Lake Dove Hunts:

Patoka Lake will conduct two in-person drawings for controlled dove hunts at Jackson SRA for one sunflower field. Drawings will be held on Sept. 1 and 2, at 06:30 a.m. (Eastern Daylight Savings Time) at the Jackson SRA Check Station #5 Parking Area. This parking area is located approximately 0.3 miles west on County Road 725 S from S Co Road 1075W, within Orange County.

Hunters should be aware that approximately 10 groups are expected to be drawn and there is a maximum of two hunters per stake allowed. Hunting hours for drawn hunters at Patoka Lake will be from 7:15 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (EDST).   All fields surrounding our controlled sunflower field(s) will be subject to similar time restrictions.

There will be no "stand-by" or refilling of shooting stations for early departures on Sept. 1 or 2. The field will be closed after 12:00 p.m. on each day. Fields will be considered “Open Hunting” starting Monday, September 3, 2018 and shooting hours will be ½ hour before sunrise to sunset.

Hunters are reminded that they need to purchase the proper licenses and stamps, and their harvest information program (HIP) number. New this year, hunters at Patoka Lake will be limited to 50 shells, except for youth hunters, ages 17 and under, who are limited to 75 shells. Hunters are reminded that they must utilize non-toxic shot of size 6 or smaller, and they are required to have their firearm plugged so that the firearm can only contain three (3) shells at any time.

Dove hunters seeking a non-draw hunt can find three fields totaling approximately nine acres within Jackson SRA. The fields can be found by traveling west on W. County Road 675 S from State Highway 145. W. County Road 675 S will come to County Road 825 W. Continue to travel west traveling along County Road 825 W. for 0.5 miles. The field will be on the south side of the road. Hunters are encouraged to wear blaze orange clothing (vests & hat) for safety as other users may be in the fields and area.

Hunters may contact the Patoka Lake Main Office at (812) 685-2464 and ask to speak to the property Wildlife Specialist in advance if they require further information.
