Event Description:
Electrofishing Demo from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m.
Fishing Pier (across road from swimming beach)
Electrofishing uses direct current electricity to attract fish so that they can be easily netted (with no harm to the fish!). It’s a common scientific survey method used to sample fish populations to determine abundance, density, and species composition.
At 12:30 p.m., fisheries biologist Debra King will give a short talk at the pier about the technique and tools used in electrofishing. You can then watch as she electrofishes in the area around the pier. At around 1:05 p.m., Debra will bring the boat back up alongside the pier to showcase (and release) the fish that she caught. |
