During the summer of 2018, the Departments of Anthropology at IUPUI and the University of Indianapolis
partnered with Cardno, Inc. to exhume and analyze the remains, associated objects, and architecture from the 19th
century Bethel Cemetery located on the property of the Indianapolis International Airport in Decatur Township.
This project, the largest industry-university partnership ever in Indiana, employed cutting-edge methods and
techniques to document and develop a virtual model for the cemetery and bioarchaeological analyses to provide a picture of life and lifeways in Central Indiana during a significant period of Euro-American settlement, change, and development. This talk will highlight some of the preliminary field and laboratory findings, while also discussing the plans for additional research and repatriation.

Presenters: Jeremy J. Wilson is an associate professor in the Department of Anthropology at IUPUI. Alex Badillo
is an assistant professor in the Department of Earth and Environmental Systems at Indiana State University.
Ryan Peterson is a senior consultant and practice lead at Cardno, Inc. Christopher Schmidt is a professor in
the Department of Anthropology at the University of Indianapolis.
