Event Description:
Labor Day Weekend with 1800's Living Farmstead Days and Haypress Demonstration
Where: Hickory Hollow Nature Center at O'Bannon Woods State Park
When: Saturday, September 1st & Sunday, September 2nd

Pack a picnic lunch and bring your family to celebrate Labor Day Weekend with us at Hickory Hollow Interpretive Center at O'Bannon Woods State Park. Our 1800's Living Pioneer Farmstead will be Saturday, September 1st and Sunday, September 2nd from 10am to 3pm. Spend the day by stepping back in time to the 1800’s! Walk around listening to the live music as you visit a working blacksmith shop, cooper shop, summer kitchen, pioneer cabin, trappers shed, tomahawk throwing, with a “pioneer dunking booth”, leather worker, weavers, spinners, quilters, and even pan for gold.

Make your way into the barn at 1:00 pm to watch and listen as we show you how hay was baled in the 1850’s as we operate a unique 1850 haypress.  The haypress is powered by one of our oxen, Forest or Gump.  The demonstration, held only nine days each year, will be at 1:00 pm on both Saturday, September 1st and Sunday, September 2nd. In the event of mechanical difficulty with the 165-year old haypress, a special tour of the press, draft animals, and barn is given in its place. The haypress, a very important piece of Indiana history, is an Indiana invention!
