[DNR] Hunt, Fish, Eat: Whitetail Deer, Fort Wayne

This course will provide you with the opportunity to learn in a hands-on safe environment the skills necessary to begin to hunt whitetail deer in Indiana. This course will be a four part series with an optional 5th session that is hosted by Purdue Extension. The sessions will focus on the following fundamentals: laws and regulations, firearms and safety, locating a hunting spot and knowing where to set, tracking and field dressing your harvest, handling and preparing your harvest for the table, and wrap-up with review of information covered. Each session will include an opportunity to sample venison recipes from your instructors, as well as get your hands on the variety of gear and resources available to hunters today. Sessions will be held at different local sites. Participants are asked to participant in all sessions.

September 5: Session 1: History of whitetail deer hunting in Indiana and rules and regulations.
September 12: Session 2: At the shooting range: safety and sighting in your gun.
September 19: Session 3: Deer sign, field set-up, introduction to equipment.
September 26: Session 4: Shot placement, tracking and wrap-up.
Date TBA: Session 5: Purdue Extension’s Venison Workshop (these are scheduled separately).

Participants must be a new hunter or a new hunter and over 18 years of age. All equipment will be provided.
