After the Shot: Tips for Tracking and Recovering Deer, J.E. Roush Lake Fish & Wildlife Area

Event Description:

This classroom based workshop is designed to teach participants the best methods for tracking and recovering deer. The workshop is open to hunters of all experience levels. Participants must be at least 18 years old or accompanied by a parent or guardian to attend.

During the classroom portion of the workshop, participants will become familiar with:

  • Shot placement
    • Firearms vs. Archery equipment
  • After the shot
    • Reading animal reactions
    • Evaluating the shot site
    • Judging wait time

During the field portion of the workshop, participants will become familiar with:

  • Tracking technique
    • How to read blood trail
  • Tracking w/ dog
    • When to use
    • How to find a K-9 tracker
    • Raising and training

A portion of this workshop will be outside in forested areas. Please dress accordingly, long pants and sturdy boots are recommended.

There is no cost associated in attending this workshop. You are not required to have a hunting license to participate.
