Event Description:
MONARCH MANIA WEEKEND at the historic Stanley Schoolhouse- please bring lawn chairs or blankets for the programs.

Friday, August 9th

1-4 pm. Craft Table. Join volunteers at the craft and coloring table to take home your very own monarch!

1 pm. Magnificent Monarchs. These insects are amazing! Metamorphosis, migration, milkweed, diapause.  We will have eggs and instars for you to see. (1 hour)

2 pm. Butterfly Stroll. Join a Naturalist and go across the road into our prairie as we look at milkweed and nectar flowers.  There should be monarch eggs and instars for us to see! (1 hour)

3 pm. Monarch Parenting 101. You can help monarchs on their road to recovery.  Be a monarch foster parent.  This program will teach you the basics on collecting, raising, and releasing these beautiful butterflies.  (1 hour)

Saturday, August 10th

10 am -4 pm. Craft Table.  Join volunteers at the craft and coloring table to take home your very own monarch!

10 am. Introduction to Monarchs. What is a monarch?  Come and learn all about the basics of monarchs at this family friendly program. (1 hour)

11 am. Pollinator Gardens & Native Plants.  Come join Jessica, an urban Wildlife Biologist with IN DNR, as she talks to us about how to attract pollinators to your own backyard.

Noon. Picnic Lunch. Grab a picnic lunch and join us on the lawn, be sure to bring your questions about monarchs!

1 pm. Monarch Tagging. For years no one knew where monarchs went in the winter.  After years and years of tagging, their winter roosts were discovered in Mexico.  How in the world do you tag a butterfly?  Join Jody Heaston as she takes us through the process.

2 pm. Milkweed 101. Milkweed is the only host plant for monarchs.  This interactive program led by Jody Heaston will teach you all about milkweed. (1 hour)

3 pm. State of Monarchs & How YOU Can Help. Monarch numbers have decreased in numbers drastically in the last 20 years.  What are some of the causes and is there anything we can do to help?  What does the future look like?  (1 hour)
