19th Annual Sand Sculpture Contest, Indiana Dunes State Park
Start Date: 7/9/2016Start Time: 7:00 AM
End Date: 7/9/2016End Time: 1:00 PM
Event Description:
Watch the sand come alive or participate with friends and family, Saturday, July 9 at the 19th Annual Sand Sculpture Contest at Indiana Dunes State Park.

Registration begins at 9 a.m CDT on the west end of the pavilion. Judging begins at noon, followed by awards after 1 pm. Teams wanting a jump start may begin as early as 7 a.m.

This year's theme is "Indiana." Sculptures that follow the theme will earn extra points from the judges. Prizes will be awarded in two categories, one for teams of children 15 and younger and another for individuals and families numbering less than eight. Watchers can also vote for their favorite in the "Viewer's Choice Award" between noon and 1p.m.

"It’s been great to see folks run with the theme each year," said Brad Bumgardner, interpretive naturalist. "Whether you're 5 or 105 years old grab a pile of sand and get creative."

Participation in the contest is free after paying the standard gate fee of $7 for Indiana vehicles and $12 for out-of-state vehicles. For more information, call the nature center at (219) 926-1390. This year's event is an Indiana Bicentennial Legacy Project Event.
