Proposed Fish and Wildlife Area improvements in Vermillion and Benton counties
Start Date: 5/23/2017 All Day
Event Description:

Proposed Fish and Wildlife Area improvements in Vermillion and Benton counties

Two sites in Benton County at Kirsch Gamebird Area (Willow Slough FWA) and LaSalle FWA; one site in Vermillion County at the Healthy River INitiative Domeika Tract.

All three of the proposed projects are improvement or enhancement projects on Indiana public Fish and Wildlife Areas or Healthy Rivers INitiative properties. Site locations and descriptions are included below.

Project County Project Type PLSS Location
Willow Slough FWA – Kirsch GBA Bin Removal Benton Grain bin removal T24N R9W S4
LaSalle FWA Building Removal Benton House / pole barn removal T31N R10W S12
Domeika (HRI) Parking Lot (Rhodes) Vermillion Parking lot construction T14N R9W S33

The Kirsch GBA bin removal project is concerned with removing three old grain bins and their concrete foundations from the gamebird habitat area. These grain bins are no longer in use (and in fact are no longer usable). Once removed, restoration to native warm season grasses will continue.

The LaSalle FWA building removal project involves the removal of a house and pole barn from a recently acquired tract at LaSalle FWA. Removal of the buildings will allow for increased management capability and will provide for better public access to the recently purchased tract.

The Domeika #2 parking lot project will provide public parking to the Domeika HRI tract. This tract and its new parking lot will provide public access opportunities for hunting, fishing, trapping, and wildlife viewing.
